Projectors is a surgical performance in which Martin Messier orchestrates the luminous and sonic distortion of 8mm projectors. In this work, objects from another time are diverted from their original function. Here, the projectors don't project: they act, becoming noisy, luminous instruments at the heart of the performance.
With precise stage lighting, the almost mythical roar of three spotlights is resynthesized, transforming these machines into explosive, unexpected sound devices. In this timeless universe, Martin Messier multiplies his gestures with precision. He manually triggers the projector motors, orchestrates the play of light and shadow, and blurs the boundaries of time and technology. The machines come to life, seeming to oscillate between a retro object - whose familiarity arouses a very particular emotion - and a contemporary sculpture.
Spectators are plunged into a sensory experience where sound and light become raw material, summoning both the intimate and the strange. Offbeat and stunning, Projectors explores the potential of everyday objects, transforming their mechanics into radical orchestration.
