Con Amore is one of two video self-portraits by Martin Messier, a work that illustrates his interest in performance and the essential place of the body and movement.
A breathless body, articulated by a surgical dissection of time. Like a collection of fragments, a being increasingly fractured - probably in search of itself - from the moments that make it up. Then the intensity of the cry, until the exhaustion of pain. An act of despair, pulverized, until man finally becomes a machine, a mechanical monster. And yet, the universe stands still.
This subtle interplay between interiority and exteriority, visible and invisible, reflects Martin Messier's artistic quest. He questions our connection to the world, our ability to emerge from ourselves, while exploring the limits of sensory perception and the dissolution of identity.
