Corps mort features four performers exploring the relationship between gravity, light and sound, and movement.
In a deliberately minimalist set-up, a dozen chairs are suspended by a system of ropes and pulleys. These chairs are not fixed or silent: they float and sway, taking center stage in a moving, meticulously orchestrated scenography. Like the performers, they become living protagonists of the work. Martin Messier precisely synchronizes the gestures of the performers and the movements of the chairs, blurring the boundary between the inert and the living. These objects, carriers of noise and movement, converse with the human bodies in a choreography in which every tension, every oscillation reveals an interaction.
Corps mort thus questions the place of bodies, their weight and absence, while creating a symbiosis between human gesture and the movement of suspended objects, amplified by a landscape of sound and light.
