MARTIN MESSIER | MACHINE VARIATION

MACHINE _ VARIATION is a performance resulting from the collaboration between Martin Messier and Nicolas Bernier. While the imposing wooden structure, designed in collaboration with artist Jonathan Villeneuve, initially catches the eye, it is the human body that remains at the heart of this spectacular work.

On stage, the two performers interact directly with this monumental instrument. Pulling levers, activating controls and interacting in a manner as confident as it is enigmatic, the duo shape a contemplative soundscape and visual landscape in real time.

This performance questions the materiality, presence and role of the human body in the creative process. It explores the interactions between the physical and the mechanical, the artistic fruit born of the hand that acts and the machine that responds.
